Refractive Errors
Refractive errors, so called because they affect how the eye refracts or focuses vision, are commonly called nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. These problems cause blurred vision and may be treated with eyeglasses, contact lenses, or refractive surgery. The examination for refractive problems requires good rapport between you and the doctor.
The doctors at Dyersburg Family Eye Care are careful to listen to your concerns and your description of your vision problems, because communication during this portion of the examination is critical to the choice of lenses best suited to meet your needs.
Detection and Treatment of Amblyopia
Amblyopia is a condition from birth that occurs when each eye has a different focusing power, or when the eyes do not align straight together. The result of untreated amblyopia is permanently poor vision in one or both eyes. When diagnosed at a young age, especially before 6 years old, there are several treatment options that can significantly improve vision.
In most cases of amblyopia the child’s eyes appear to the parents to be normal. In fact, in many cases the child never complains because they learn early to be dependent on the vision of the better seeing eye. The doctors (link to page 4) at Dyersburg Family Eye Care are trained in the detection and treatment of amblyopia.
The prevalence of undiagnosed amblyopia is another reason that it is essential for every child to have an eye health and vision examination performed by an eye doctor within the first year of life. If it is noticed that the pupil of one eye has a different appearance that it’s fellow eye, or if one eye appears to turn in our out, that is reason for an immediate visit to the eye doctor. Therapy for amblyopia can include eyeglasses, contact lenses, temporary wearing of an eye patch, the use of eye drops, or surgery.
Eye Pain, Redness or Discharge
Eye pain, redness, or discharge symptoms are commonly treated by the doctors. Frequently these symptoms arise from injury, infection, or allergy and careful selection of appropriate medical therapy is the key to helping you. The doctors at Dyersburg Family Eye Care have extensive training and experience diagnosing and treating these conditions.
